Not all llamas are suited or wanted for the breeding programme. These 5 llama have been retained as pets and and trekking llamas because of their wonderful temperament. All types of llamas can be trained to trek but one of the advantages of using castrated males is that they are big, strong and not in competition to be the top sire. Not all llamas, however, have suitable temperaments to trek and what may appear very biddable at 2 years of age may not been when fully grown and sexually mature, especially if also working as a stud.
